What's art and how can we make it better?

  I thought I could just paste a definition of art with a little explanation here but my dictionary gave me about 10 definitions about art, and none of those matched what I believed art is. The focus of those definitions were on creativity and skill, I wandered lonely as a cloud...ادامه مطلب

Gooseberries

The main conflict in the plot is between the characters of Nikolay and Ivan. Nikolay is a symbol of selfishness but Ivan symbolizes selflessness( Although they were more similar in the past). Nikolay has a definitive goal and doesn't care what happens to other people as long as he reaches his dream. He marries just to get her wife's money, and when he's rich,he treats the peasants however he pleases. Nikolay on the other hand realizes how empty this kind of happiness is and wants to reach true happiness by helping other people.

The theme of the story is about human ignorance and selfishness.

Hills like white elephants

Hills like white elephants

Hemmingway writes the story in a way that the narrator just talks about the enviroment and obvious facts, not events or characters thoughts. So it is an objective point of view and it is also third person limited since the narrator doesn't seem to know much about whats going on with  the characters.

Meeting at night

Our poet is deeply in love. So deep that in fact he can't stop thinking about her lover throughout his jouey to meet her (instead of thinking about other things like the difficulty and length of the jouey). Whatever he looks at keeps reminding him of her appearance and the poet uses heavy imagery to try to make us feel what he's feeling. I wandered lonely as a cloud...

I wandered lonely as a cloud

Our lonely low-spirited poet is wandering by a lake when he comes across a huge group of daffodils. He was so deep in thought that he didn't realize how happy the flowers made him. But after that event,   whenever he's sad or broody he remembers the daffodils and they make  him feel better. 

Simile: Wandering lonely as a cloud. Continuous as  the stars that shine.

Apostrophe: O'er

Metaphor: The rows of daffodils are like the milky way

Personification is lso obvious in most of the lines as the writer attaches human traits such as dancing .to the daffodils
